Monarch Casino is a newly remodeled casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Its attached 23-story hotel opened in November 2020. The casino area at Monarch Casino covers three floors. Table games and a large bar are on the lower level and a sportsbook is located on the third floor. Slots and video poker are available on multiple floors. Keno is also available.

There are four restaurants and a coffee shop at Monarch Casino. The hotel offers 516 guest rooms with a rooftop indoor pool, spa, and fitness center.

Monarch Casino

There are over 1,000 slot and video poker machines at Monarch Casino in Black Hawk. The slots are mostly modern titles, often with multiple denominations. 

Table games

There are 42 table games at Monarch Casino. Two are double deck and 15 are six-deck blackjack. All games allow doubling down on two cards before and after splitting, blackjack pays 3:2 and the dealer hits soft 17. In the six-deck version, Aces may be split up to four hands. The limits were $15 to $500 during our October 2021 visit. The double deck was $50 to $1,500.

There is a $25 double zero roulette table. Pai gow poker is also $25. Three Card Prime Poker and DJ Wild Stud have $10 limits. For $15, craps offered 10 times odds. The field now pays double on 12, like the rest of Colorado casino. Baccarat is available for $50. Heads Up Hold’em is now offered at Monarch Casino.

There are heads-up electronic table games. Players may choose from $0.50 double zero roulette or $3 3:2 blackjack. It has a double-down option before and after splitting.

Video poker

Monarch Casino is a top choice for the best video poker to be found in Black Hawk. The casino offers a large variety of variants with quality pay tables, especially at higher limits. Denominations start at two cents on single-line games and go up to $5. 

Our pick for video poker is on the second level in the far left corner. A circular bank of machines in that area offers $1 three- and five-play 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe, Jacks or Better, and Double Bonus Poker. The Jacks or Better game is also on single-line machines at $1 and $5. Our favorite quarter game here is 8/5 Bonus Poker: It comes with a royal-flush progressive.

Dining and drinks at Monarch Casino

There are four restaurants and a coffee shop at Monarch Casino. There are three restaurants on the third floor. Near the sportsbook, Bistro Mariposa serves southwestern Baja cuisine. Menu items include tapas, tacos, soups, salads, and entrees.

The Monarch Chophouse is located near the elevators. This upscale steakhouse serves prime beef, seafood, and lamb. A large wine list and cocktails are available. Table-side preparations feature Caesar salad, Steak Diane, and “321 Below” ice cream that is frozen using liquid nitrogen.

The Buffet serves lunch on weekdays, brunch on weekends, and dinner nightly. Food stations feature soups, salad, prime rib, Vietnamese Pho, and a Mongolian grill. Lunch is $28.99 and weeknight dinner is $53.99. Brunch and dinner Friday and Saturday are $58.99. Lobster tail or crab clusters can be added for an additional $9.99. Children age 4 to 10 eat for a discounted price.

Twenty-Four 7 is located on the second floor across from the rewards center. Serving Asian and American cuisine, the menu features burgers, pizza, stir-fry, and an all-day breakfast. The nearby Java etc is a coffee shop serving Starbucks coffee, Teavana tea, pastries, sandwiches, and gelato.

Monarch Resort

Monarch Casino offers 23 floors with 516 guest rooms. Rooms are subject to a $32 resort fee per room per night. The resort fee includes access to the fitness center, pool and spa, and two in-room bottles of water.

Resort amenities

Hotel amenities include airline boarding pass printing and access to Spa Monarch with its year-round indoor/outdoor rooftop pool and fitness center. Six meeting rooms, including an almost 4,000-square-foot ballroom, can accommodate groups of four to 400.

Located on the twenty-third floor, the spa menu includes massages, facials, skincare, and body wraps with nail and hair salon services. Hotel and spa guests may access the pool daily from 6am until 10pm. Guests under 18 years of age are permitted to swim from 10am until 6pm with adult supervision. With views of Black Hawk and the surrounding mountains, the fitness center is open from 6am until 10pm daily.

All rooms at Monarch Casino include wifi, TV, Bluetooth-enabled alarm clock, refrigerator with two complimentary bottles of water, iron/ironing board, safe, and coffee maker. 

Premier and Grand rooms are available with a single king bed or two queen beds. The Luxury is available with two queen beds. The Spa Suite includes a spa tub, VIP check-in, and access to the 20th-floor Concierge lounge, which serves complimentary breakfast and afternoon snacks.
